Some old gaming

While cleaning up earlier this week, I decided to get out the old Sega Genesis.  This is the first model Genesis with the built in headphone jack and volume control.  I had bought it brand new in the early 1990's.  Several years ago, I ended up getting the 32x and Sega CD expansions for it.  I got everything connected, and was able to try a few of the games I have.  I wonder if the nephews will want to try it out.

Even though it is only 2 player, I do have 5 controllers.  The 2 gray ones are turbo controllers.  And yes I even have 5 power supplies.  Not sure why as the setup only requires 3 power supplies, one for each system component.

As long as this works I'm not getting rid of it.

31 days of Halloween

I have decided to start up my own little Halloween tradition, other than candy and costumes.  I am going to try to watch a Halloween appropriate movie each day of the month.  Well, the only problem there is I have missed 2 days already.  But I shall continue on.  So far, here is my list:

Oct 1:  Ghostbusters (the best start for Halloween)
    Oct 2:  Ghostbusters II
Oct 3:  An American Werewolf in London (My first time watching it)
Oct 4:  An American Werewolf in Paris
    Oct 5:  Van Helsing
Oct 6:  Scooby-Doo Cartoons (both TV series and movies)
    Oct 8:  Scooby-Doo 2002 movie
Oct 9 : The Addams Family
Oct 11: The Addams Family Values

Not sure what's up next, but I do have a decent collection to choose from.  More movies to come!

R/C update

I finally got to paint up a new body for my Tamiya DB-01 Durga buggy.  I've actually had the body for a while now, just never got to it.  For the colors, I did the main body in metallic blue backed by silver, 1 rear wing in black, and 1 rear wing in silver.  This will somewhat match my Axial EXO Terra buggy.  I also cut out some openings to help ventilate the battery and motor.

Prep work:

All painted:

New body with a shot of each wing:

Now I just need to take the new look out for a spin.

July 4th part 2

I had a good day off on July 4th.

The day started with cleaning the BBQ grill.  Oh what fun to clean a grill in the morning heat.

After that, went out with the wife.  She wanted to take me to the Rumbi Island Grill, but they were closed.  So instead we went to Smash Burger.  I enjoy their burgers and Smash fries.  They're not gourmet, but the are better than other fast-food burger places.

We decided to go see The Lone Ranger at the Galaxy Theaters Luxury+ Green Valley.  On the way we stopped at Starbucks.  Our drinks ended up being free due to the long wait through drive thru.  We got to the theaters, and we ended up in the 1st row due to assigned seating at this theater.  Even though our seats were bad, the movie was still fun to watch.

After the movie, we headed home for some BBQ dinner.  I got the grilled fired up, and cooked up some slider size burgers and turkey hotdogs.  I think I cooked them a little too long, but still tasty.  We also had a side of beans.  A very good 4th of July meal.

Once dinner was done, we headed back out to catch some fireworks over at the Red Rock Casino.  Getting there and parked across the street wasn't bad.  We got to some some OK fireworks.  The show only lasted 9 minutes and had a very abrupt and unexpected end (found out the next day at work that the last 2 little fireworks were actually supposed to have been shot off earlier).  After the not so grand finale came time to leave.  Spent more time getting out of the parking lot than it did to drive there, park, and watch the short fireworks show.  But we finally made it out.

For our day's finale, we stopped off at Sonic for a couple of shakes.  I very nice and cool end, especially since we got there when the shakes were half off.

The day had it's ups and downs, but it was a great time with my wife.

Tamiya Stratus

My new Tamiya TT-01E Dodge Stratus has now got some added details to give it a little bit better look.  I also took it for a run today since being upgraded.  It ran decent, and had a little glitching.  Unfortunately the fun was cut short with the pinion gear coming loose.  I haven't opened up the gear box yet to take a look or fix it.  Looks like I have an evening project this week to get it up and running.  I'll post up a picture later.

Some R/C updating

Over the past few weeks I've been making some slow progress on my R/C projects.  And this is my official update for them.

First off, the Tamiya TT-01 is ready to drive and is now a TT-01E chassis.  I finally got the body painted, stickered up, and mounted.

Now I just need to charge up a battery and hit the road.  Not sure how the drifting will do since I do have the stock road tires on.  Next upgrades are changing over to a 2.4gHz radio, a second set of wheels (probably black as black seems to fit with most paint schemes), drift style tires, and some lights.

Next car up is the HPI Micro RS4.  I decided to go with my desert paint scheme, but I had to change up the barbed wire stickers as the ones I like the most are no longer available.
I still don't have all the electronics setup for it, but hopefully I can complete it this week.  I do have some drift specific "tires" (made of hard plastic instead of rubber, so I should have lots of sliding), and a light set (just basic 2 white headlights and 2 red tail lights).  Its next upgrade will be moving to the 2.4gHz radio, and a replacement battery (the current one is old and I have yet to see if it will charge up).

Finally the HPI Racing Mini Desert Trophy Truck pictures.
Original body
New Ford F-150 body:
I have yet to run this one in the dirt, but that will happen soon.  This is available as a RTR only package.  The scale looks suckered me into the purchase.  The current upgrades are:
  • Futaba 4PL receiver to get the truck on 2.4gHz.
  • Futaba S3003 servo.  It has a little more torque than the stock servo.
  • HPI wheels and tires for the spare.  It came with faux spares.  While they look good, it just doesn't seem right running with fake spares.
And last up is my Tamiya DB-01 Durga.  With this being a 4wd buggy, bodies that fit are hard to find.  I actually had to go through the manufacturer to get a 2nd Durga body.  I haven't decided on colors yet, as my spray paint supply is currently limited.  Along with the body I picked up another set of wheels and tires.  The wheels are the kit stock (apparently non-dish type wheels are not very popular for buggies).  The tires are Pro-Line Racing Dirt Hawg III on the fronts and Dirt Hawg I on the rears.  As it turns out, even though I get more off road kits I tend to do a lot more on road driving.  The Dirt Hawg tires are good all terrains, so I can drive it on road, gravel/pebbles, and dirt.  Oh what fun!.

More pictures and video to come...some time.

Touring Car

Well I haven't taken the opportunity to get a good picture of the HPI MTDT yet.

Before I get another new kit, I want to get some of my existing ones up and running again.  One of the revitalize/restore projects I have in the works is my Tamiya TT-01 Touring Car.

The first part is to disassemble.  Almost as much fun as putting together.  To help me out in the reassembly process, I used the manual to take it a part and put the parts into plastic baggies labeled with the step number referenced.  The only things not taken a part were the gear diffs.

(missing the old chassis from the picture, but I do have it)

I decided to update my TT-01 to the Type E (E for Enhanced) version.  This includes better shock towers, an upper brace, and better steering setup.  I also picked up some turn buckle steering tie rods and adjustable upper front/rear upgrades to add more adjust-ability to it, and a better screw set.

(Yes I got a new chassis as I have had issues with some of the screws stripping)

During the reassembly process I didn't take to many pictures.  So here is the only in-progress picture I have.

And here it is fully assembled.  I just need to get the new body painted and decorated, and get the car adjusted.

(Original Subaru Impreza WRC 2003 body)

(HPI Dodge Stratus 190mm body)

For the electronics, I put in some older gear that I have:
  • Novak Rooster ESC
  • Airtronics Rival 75mHz AM radio set.
  • Airtronics high Power Metal Gear Servo Z (a little over kill with 115in-oz torque @4.8v)
  • Trinity Midnight 2 stock motor
So why the rebuild?  This is one of the few on road kits that I have.  I really should try to get most of my kits up and running before I try to get any new ones.  And I want to try out drifting.  I figure that since I already have a road car, this might be the cheapest way to try it out in 1/10 scale.  Plus the last time I was at the in-laws with my HPI MTDT, the nephews wanted me to get it to spin in circles.  An off road truck trying to do circles on the street?  Not very successful.  Let's hope the TT-01 is up to the task.

And as for drifting, there is a 1/18th scale road kit that I am also working on to get up and running/drifting.  But that's another project.

Blade mQX part 1

Well I've had this part 1 movie done for a bit, but just haven't gotten around to letting it out.  I got to thinking about my videos and that I should change things up.  Ryan from FilmRiot had made a suggestion regarding videos being used to show off your work.  I can't remember all the details and don't feel like searching back for the specific video, but he basically stated that you should just get right into the video and save all the credit stuff for the end.  So this is what I am going to try doing...with the next video.  For now, here is another one of my R/C videos.

I'm also going to start including the apps used in the credits as sometimes I forget all that I use during the editing/post production process.
